Brae Pasture Nature Reserve

Visit Brae Pasture Nature Reserve for breathtaking views across the Ribble Valley. In summer, experience a multitude of plants and flowers, with an expanse of yellow rock-rose in June and the rare Alpine bistort, found here in one of its most southerly locations.

Whilst only covering two fields there is a considerable mix of habitats on this nature reserve including limestone pavement, acid grassland, calcareous flush and a wooded cliff gill.

In these habitats over 150 plant species have been recorded including the uncommon Oeder’s apple moss (so called as its capsules looks like miniature apples), as well as early purple orchid, violet and primrose. Butterflies like the small skipper and common blue thrive feeding off rock-rose, whilst curlew and snipe use the surrounding fields and may be spotted from the nature reserve.
